Inpris Ltd.

S

ightless Touch Control is a groundbreak-

ing innovative auto technology, owned

by Inpris, that enables eyes-free touch

control for automotive infotainment systems,

making driving safer, without compromising

connectivity and efficiency. Inpris maintains an

extensive experience of the world of technology,

communication, and social entrepreneurship.

In 2014, Inpris was awarded “one of the 200

best apps in the world” in the category of inclu-

sion at the UN’s WSA award for a solution for the

visually impaired.

In 2016 the company was awarded in the annual

CAR-HMI summit in Berlin as the 3rd most user-

friendly HMI feature, following only Daimler AG

and Continental Automotive. Sightless Touch by

Inpris is protected by two approved U.S patents,

a PCT and few more patent pending in the U.S,

Korea, India and more.

Distracted Driving

After several years of decreasing number of ca-

sualties in car accidents in the US, 2015 was the

deadliest year, in the past seven years, with more

than 35,000 casualties, despite the increasing

infiltration of active safety technologies. Most

car accidents are related to distracted driving,

which is the act of driving while engaged in other

activities, such as texting, playing with the radio,

entering a GPS destination, etc.

New in-car touch-based multimedia systems are

causing, even more driver distractions, since you

can’t be looking at the screen and on the road at

the same time. Voice commands were also found

to fail in the mission of decreasing driver distrac-

tion due to their low reliability in the noisy driving

environment, and their high cognitive distraction

effect as was observed in an AAA research.

Distracted Driving Facts:

1. Taking your eyes off the road for just 2 seconds

increases accident risk by 24 times.

2. It takes an average of 30 seconds to complete

a simple voice command.

3. It takes the mind 27 seconds to regain full at-

tention after a voice command was performed.

Sightless Touch is the only touch-based technol-

ogy that enables true multitasking – e.g. chang-

ing a radio station while staying focused on the

road ahead.

Bringing the Future of In-Car HMI, Today

Sightless Touch is an innovative patented tech-

nology that not only frees the driver’s eyes from

looking at the screen, but it is ten times faster

and prevents the cognitive distractions that tra-

ditional systems cause. Its interface is designed

for the driving environment, with safety, speed,

and usability in mind, creating quick shortcuts for

the driver to execute their most common tasks in

a fraction of the time. This futuristic methodology

maps the human hand and follows the fingers

through algorithms assigning a different function

for each finger and its movements opening the

possibility for commands to operate a console

without looking at it.

The sightless interface in automobile touch-based

infotainment systems aim to decrease driver dis-

traction drastically, while increasing interactive

efficiency. Inpris also works in cooperation with

additional Israeli startups, such as RLive, which

provide access to thousands of national and in-

ternational internet radio stations.

How Sightless Touch Works

Instead of using visual concentration to guide

one finger to touch specific elements on a screen,

the driver places three fingers anywhere on the

screen, with the software automatically calibrat-

ing to their finger placement.

Next, they remove two fingers, with a new menu

materializing around the remaining finger.

All the driver needs to do now is to swipe in

the direction of one out of four options to se-

lect an action. Everything is fully customizable,

and when the driver enters the car, the system

wirelessly identifies them through their phone,

and changes the settings according to their pre-

set preferences. There is no limitation to the num-

ber of preference profiles to one car.

For increased security, instead of remembering

the information from the phone, the system acts

as an information conduit for the phone.

The user’s preferences and info are immediately

lost from the infotainment systemwhen they dis-

connect their wireless phone tether.

Sightless Touch commands and interactions will

not be interrupted or interfered with by ambient

noise, music, or people talking.

Market Potential and Estimations

With the major High-tech and telecom companies

jumping in, the global market of in-car infotain-

ment is growing exponentially from $14B in 2015

to an estimation of $24B in 2020. After five years

of development and an investment of around

$1,000,000, Sightless Touch is entering the mar-

ket to revolutionize the HMI experience, with the

goal of reaching 5-10% of the new cars within five

years plus a worldwide after-market distribution.

There are pilots with several car manufacturers

and Tier 1ns, and Inpris aims to make first OEM

deployments within 18 months. Plans for an au-

tonomous car version which will answer future

challenges have been done as well.

The first release of the system (S.T.C) will be avail-

able for purchase in the aftermarket stores in

Israel starting this winter.
