D

erech Eretz Highways Management Cor-

poration Ltd. operates Highway 6. The

company specializes in the establish-

ment and integration of toll systems and traffic

management, as well as setting up and managing

control centers.

Highway 6

Highway 6 stretches 150 kilometers from the En

Tut Interchange in the north to the Lehavim Inter-

change near Lehavim in the south (of which 50 km

south of the Soreq interchange is toll free). Along

the highway are 16 interchanges, 150 bridges, 2

two-way tunnels (the first is about half a kilometer

long in the Tel Hadid area, and the second is about

350meters long in the Givat Nili area) and a wildlife

crossing in the Dalia area in order to allow animals

to move freely. In addition, there are 4 rest stops

along the highway which include gas stations, res-

taurants, and convenience stores. Travelers enjoy

a rich, comfortable experience on what is consid-

ered to be one of the safest highways. Highway 6

operates as an electronic toll road with no barriers

at entrances or exits and no traffic lights which al-

lows uninterrupted trips. Some of the world’smost

advanced computerized information systems are

installed along the highway including electronic

tollgates which are used to identify vehicles (video

imaging and transmission technology), categorize

types of fees and calculate the highway sections

vehicles travel. Through advanced computerized

processes trips are tabulated and invoiced. The

company maintains interfaces with the licensing

authority, financial institutions and the postal au-

thority, allowing bills to be sent directly to the cus-

tomer’s address and processing the subsequent

payment. Derech Eretz, which operates Highway 6,

manages the road’s toll & traffic control systems,

handles itsmaintenance andmonitoring, provides

service for highway customers and is responsible

for landscaping, repairing breakdowns, immediate

response to emergency situations, toll collection

and marketing.

Maintenance &Monitoring –

To ensure safe travel

and optimum traffic flow, advanced control systems

are used along the highway while patrol carsmoni-

tor any obstacles 24 hours a day. Cameras are de-

ployed along the highway, to locate all impediments

in real time which allow for timely repairs and/or

removals as warranted. The company conducts on-

goingmaintenance and checks road repairs, safety

barriers, signposts, paint quality etc. Periodic test-

ing and monitoring of noise levels, wear and tear

and air pollution are also conducted.

Environmental Protection –

About $90 million

has been invested in the highway’s surroundings.

Among other things, the company is in charge of

some 2,700 acres of green areas, maintained with

an emphasis on nurturing the environment tomeet

international standards, protecting Israel’s natural

beauty and minimizing ecological damage. The

highest standards of landscaping are maintained

on Highway 6 and the company was awarded a

prestigious international prize for environmental

quality and protection.

Collection –

Highway 6 is an electronic toll road.

Tolls are collected, according to the post paymodel,

weeks after the vehicle drives on the highway. The

company utilizes a debit collecting platform com-

prised of personnel and information systemswhich

deals with customers on all levels, while abiding by

the Israeli Toll Highways Law and regulations.

Services from Start to Finish

Handling Emergency Situations –

Highway 6’s

operation center, manned around the clock, 365

days a year, coordinates all information relating

to safety and uninterrupted travel along the road.

Once notified of a potential obstacle or incident,

the control room immediately dispatches teams to

handle the situation and minimize disruptions. In

these incidents, the company fully cooperates with

security authorities (police, ambulance services,

fire department and others).

Customer Service on the Highway –

Travelers on

highway 6 are never alone. The patrol teams also

provide assistance to travelers in need. As part

of this service, travelers get free roadside assis-

tance to change tires, call tow trucks and fill gas

and water.

Call & Service Centers –

The company operates a

customer service Call Center, comprised of comput-

erized response and service representatives. The

company has eight service centers throughout the

country. The service network provides responses

for: payments, subscription tracks, billing, naviga-

tion and directions on Highway 6 and more.

Online Customer Service –

Highway 6 has a com-

prehensive website allowing for bill payment, join-

ing subscription tracks, signing up for e-billing,

viewing monthly accounts and travel details, and

other account transactions.

Smartphone Services –

Highway 6 customers can

use their smartphones to pay bills, connect to sub-

scription accounts, or surf the company’s site to

carry out other transactions.

Cooperation with the Carmel Tunnels

In December 2010, the Carmel Tunnels Project in

Haifa was opened. Derech Eretz Highwaysmanage-

ment corporation - the operator of Highway 6works

in full coordination with Hacarmel Lanes Systems

and Operations Ltd. – the operator of the Carmel

tunnels, in providing services to joint customers

of both projects.

Derech Eretz for the Community

Derech Eretz leads many projects in the social-

environmental field, including activities in schools

and communities residing along the Highway, re-

habilitation and cultivation of sites, construction

of bike lanes near the Highway and maintaining

environmental sustainability. In addition the com-

pany takes part in the ‘Ametz Lochem’ programby

adopting one of the IDF combat units.
