Markman & Tomashin, Law Firm is one of
Israel’s leading law firms specializing
in torts, especially National Insurance
claims, road accidents, work accidents, medical
malpractice, , Ministry of Defense– Rehabilitation

school accidents, etc. The firm engages in civil liti-
gation, wills and inheritances, class actions, real
estate and National Outline Plan 38 (earthquakes).
The firmalso provides notary certification. The firm
was founded in the 1960s by the late Dov Mark-
man, with his son Gilad Markman joining in 1995
and Lior Tomashin in 1997 , both of whom had
served in the Military Prosecutor’s Office. Today,
Markman and Tomshin are the firm’s owners and
senior partners.

and Electrical Workers Assn, Construction &Wood
Workers Assn., as well as the Ashdod, Nes Ziona,
Tel Aviv, Yavne and other municipalities. This is a
partial but impressive list of the firm’s clients who

Notable Legal Achievements
The firm was chosen in the past by the National
Insurance Institute to represent cases on its be-
half against insurance companies. However, after
several years, the firm chose not to represent it
but rather employees. The firm was also chosen
to represent the State in torts cases. The firm and
partners has won many notable achievements
including:
• Winning the largest class action suit in Israel’s
history against the Israel Electric Corp. for over-
charging (about NIS 11 billion) from electricity
consumers (Israel Electric Corp. is appealing the
case to the Supreme Court).
• A ruling that changed the detention policy for
IDF soldiers: an 11 justice Supreme Court panel
cancelled a Knesset Law about the amount of time
the IDF could detain soldiers before bringing them
to court. This was the first instance of cancelling a
clause in a law by the judicial authorities that led
to the shortening of soldiers’ pre-trial detention
from 25 days to 48 hours.
• Recognizing the work of firefighters as risking
cancer and changing the position of theMinistry of
Health to acknowledge this risk since 2010.
• A Jerusalem District Court ruling on the Amazleg
affair. The only ruling in Israel to recognize the legal
injustice and that Amazleg employees were due
compensation and damages.
• Winning a class action suit against the National
Insurance Institute for collecting tens of millions
of shekels annually for health payments from dis-
abled people’s pensions in contravention of the
law and repaying large sums to the disabled.
• Changing the practice of committing bereaved
families to agree to post-mortems as a condition
to being recognized as a fallen soldier.
• Compensation for the victims’ families in the IDF
Shayetet affair after the High Court accepted the
petitioners’ suit.
• Proof of negligence and compensation for those
killed in a terror attack at Ashdod Port.
• Changing themethod of calculating the disability
percentage for disabled IDF veterans.
Contribution to the Community & Special
Projects
The firm voluntarily handles National Insurance
Institute claims by disabled children.
