N. Machsaney Hashuk is one of the
largest private food retail chains in
Israel.
The chain was established in 1996 and has 20
branches countrywide. It is held by the families
Naaman and Cohen. The chain provides the
consumers with a retail concept, combining low
prices, Kosher food and service, while seeing the
customer on equal terms.
During its years of activity, the chain has set high
standards of service and excellence, creating a
unique shopping experience for the customer,
at flexible hours of activity, locating branches
in the center of residential areas. The company
is staffed with 1,300 employees and its sales
turnover for 2014 amounted to almost NIS 1
billion.
History
The Naaman family immigrated to Israel from
Tunisia in 1972 and opened a small grocery store
in the center of a residential neighborhood in
Be’er Sheva.
In 1996 the Naaman and Cohen families merged,
founding the first branch of Machsaney Hashuk
at Beit Haeshel street in Be’er Sheva.
Over the years the chain has developed and
opened additional branches in Lehavim, Ofakim,
Dimona, Tiberias, Safed, Ramat Gan, Kiryat Ata,
Kiryat Malachi, Ein Yahav, Ashdod, Kiryat Gat,
Eilat and more. The family members work in each
of the company’s branches.
Vision and Philosophy
Machsaney Hashuk has consolidated its man-
agement perception over the years, relying on
family values.
Those values are evident as many of the family
members regularly work in the chain’s stores, as
any other employee they undergo professional
training stressing the shopping experience,
which puts the customer at the center, render-
ing personal treatment to each customer.
The company’s personnel is proud to provide
services that create a warm atmosphere in
each store, low prices, weekly sales and fresh
products.
Areas of Expertise
Gluten-Free Products –
Machsaney Hashuk was
the first chain that started selling gluten free
products. When a family member was diagnosed
with a Celiac Disease the chain identified the
need of a large group of customers. The chain
integrates competible products in the stores
in order for the whole family to enjoy shopping
together.
Coffee Shop and Sitting Corners –
Since 2011
the chain started to set up sitting arrangements
in its stores and provides the customers hot
beverages and baked goods bought directly at
the bakery.
Kosher Food –
The chain puts special emphasis
and added value to religious beliefs. The main
branch of the chain has a synagogue, so the
customers can pray during their shopping. In
addition there is a “Mikveh” for immersing uten-
sils bought at the chain. In some of the stores,
coming Passover, all “Chametz” products are
removed from the shelves, so only Kosher prod-
ucts remain, thus providing the customers a fast,
secure and convenient shopping experience.
Customers Club –
The chain operates a custom-
ers’ loyalty club on its 300,000 members. The
members are granted weekly benefits, discounts
and sales. Over 80% of the club’s members are
loyal customers of the chain for many years. In
addition to the customers club, the chain coop-
erates with Isracard through a joint credit card,
held by about 10,000 customers of the chain.
Environmental activity –
Machsaney Hashuk has
signed the Environment Ministry’s convention
for reusable shopping bags. In this framework,
the chain gives out reusable bags to the custom-
ers in order to reduce the use of polluting bags.
The chain recycles nylon bags, batteries, paper
and cardboard, and has even installed a power
generating solar system on top of the roofs of
some of its stores.
The Brand –
The chain established “the Brand”
– a series of products, having a unique branding,
consisting of 800 food and consumer products.
The variety increases monthly by the dozens,
thus enables lower costs of products by the lead-
ing manufacturers in Israel, combining Kosher
products by the Jewish Orthodox Superior Court,
Rabbi Landau and Rabbi Rubin. The products are
sold in Israel in privately owned chains that unit-
ed in order to consolidate their shopping power
and obtain a wider variety of quality products at
convenient prices for the customers.
In addition, the series of products is designed for
worldwide acquisition as a cost effective solution
for both the Jewish and non-Jewish consumers,
that wish to purchase quality and economical
products bearing fine Kosher authorizations.
Community Contribution
Machsaney Hashuk regularly contributes to fami-
lies in need and organization promoting social
values, such as the “Friends of Soroka” - Hospi-
tal Association, and “Chabad”.
In addition, the chain employs people with phys-
ical disabilities in cooperation with “Yachdav”
association and the “Rashi” Fund.
Leisure, Culture and Sport –
The chain sponsors
plays and shows for its customers to enjoy a
variety of cultural family activities at attractive
prices.
Development, Progress and Technology
The chain does not rest on its laurels but keeps
renewing all the time, according to developing
technological trends.
The chain developed a mobile application, en-
abling the customers to remain connected at all
time and enjoy sales and coupons. The chain also
has a Facebook page that provides information
and tips of clever consumption while also acting
as a customers’ service platform thus granting
a faster, more available and convenient service
experience. The friends on the Facebook page
enjoy unique weekly sales. Machsaney Hashuk
